Security Systems That Could Help to Protect Your Family

There are many different types of home security system, offered at a range of different price points. If you’re looking for something that could help to protect your family, then it’s worth investigating a few different kinds of system so that you can see what they have to offer. Home security systems range from deterrents to sophisticated monitoring systems, and depending on where you live, your risk factor, and how much importance you put on security, you could spend a small amount or a lot of money on a system. Short of hiring a security guard company, these systems are advisable deterrents to keep your home safe.

Burglar Alarms to Guard Your Home

At the core of any system is a burglar alarm. These can be simple systems that detect when a door or window is opened, or they could be more sophisticated systems with motion sensors. Some alarms simply make a sound, others will send an email or a message to your phone or will alert a security company so that they can come out and investigate the disturbance. Some are powered by the mains, some have back-up batteries. It’s important that you consider the source of power and remember that an alarm that can be disabled simply by cutting a cable is of limited use.

IP TV Camera Security Systems

IP TV cameras are useful for people who like to be able to keep an eye on their property while they are away. A good IP TV camera can be set up to record if there is activity in the area and upload the footage to a remote server – so if a crime is committed there is a record of it. These cameras can be discrete, and many of them are wireless so it is harder (but not impossible) for criminals to interrupt the sending of footage to a remote server. Many have internal storage for recordings too, and some can be controlled remotely via a phone app with a pan and zoom feature, so you can monitor your property while you are away.

Motion Sensing Lights

Motion sensing lights aren’t so much of a security feature as they are something that will make your property less appealing to would-be intruders. Most burglaries are opportunistic. If you have something of value on display and a criminal sees an easy route into your home that they can take undisturbed, then there’s a high risk that they will break in to your property. If you have something like motion sensing lights in place then a criminal will find it harder to break in without being noticed by your neighbors, or by anyone still in the property. It’s a small thing but it is something that is worth considering because it’s a low-cost way of making your property less desirable to intruders.

Remotely Monitored Systems

If you live in an area where crime is a serious issue and you want to make doubly sure that your property is safe and secure, then getting an alarm system that is monitored by a security company is a good idea. You can set up alarms, call systems and video cameras and have a security team that will pay attention to certain things (e.g. if you’re going away from home the team will respond if your cameras detect motion while you’re supposed to be away).

These systems are well worth the money if you have a stalker, have been broken into more than once or have other reasons to fear for your safety. For most households, however, a more basic security set up will offer similar returns in security for a fraction of the price in total.
